The bottom line for rural hospitals is difficult in the best of times which unfortunately were exacerbated during the pandemic. It is worrisome to consider that numbers as high as 37% (Alabama) and 34% (Mississippi) and ) are at immediate risk of closure where health disparities are already at concerning levels.
